“the birds know that hope is born again, long before the promise of flowers.” ~ danna faulds
spring is my favorite season. i love to see the birds coming out and singing, and then seeing the plants burst out with bright green leaves and all the pretty blooms. of course, this is also my worst time of year with allergies, but even with my sneezing and congestion i love to see how pretty the world is after the grayness of winter. shortly after moving from texas to dc i heard someone say that they know spring is here when they see robins and i realized that they were right. you don't see the robins until spring is truly on its way, hence this quote from a poem i love: "listen to the birds. they know that spring is coming . . . the cold retaining only a temporary hold now." being a lover of heat, that holds a specific charm for me.
as we all look forward to getting back outdoors for hiking, biking, picnics, amusement parks and lounging in the warmth you may notice that you have more energy. it is amazing that the seasons do impact how we feel, and this is the time of year that our bodies encourage us to start moving again. so go ahead and leave the office for a quick walk around the block or to a nearby park to stroll around and see the change as it happens. we are busy people with long to-do lists, so if you require, put "stop to see the flowers" on your list. we sometimes get so caught up on what we think we should be doing (being productive) that we forget to take some time out of your day to enjoy our surroundings. stopping to do nothing can be even more important then checking off one more thing on the list, since it gives your brain a chance to relax.
i think spring is an amazing time of year because of the renewal of the world. one day that dogwood is bare and then a day or two later you see flowers start to pop out! a few days of the glorious sun, and mother nature starts to put on such a beautiful show, so don't miss out on it. think of these warm days of spring as a gift for you and get outside and away from the office. that inbox or to-do list will still be there when you return, so why not have a fresh approach to it!
blessings and love,
siobhan troy

i started practicing yoga after a friend of mine invited me to take a class with her at tranquil space. i have always been active, with my workouts focusing on running, weight lifting, and kickboxing. however, one thing missing from my routine was stretching. as a result, i was quickly losing flexibility. yoga helped me gain back my flexibility. i also enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and experience that tranquil space had to offer. even though i found yoga to be a great stress reliever as well as a good workout, my practice was very inconsistent. after a year hiatus, i decided to make a regular commitment to practicing yoga, and as a result, began working as a studio assistant. i still need to work on dedicating more time to my yoga practice, but i'm making progress!

since i came to the united states in the summer last year, i have had a mental and physical disorder because my life had been changed so much, which caused a lot of stress and strain. i almost lost my intention of practicing yoga, although i had been practicing yoga eagerly in japan for about two years. luckily i passed by tranquil space bethesda, where i could feel a peaceful atmosphere. i instinctively felt "this is the place to practice my yoga!" i was right. the type of yoga which tranquil space offers is just what i wanted to learn, and the teacher was just the right person whom i wanted to learn yoga with. now i truly enjoy the classes at tranquil space bethesda, which has an innovative sequence of poses. i also enjoy the challenging poses, which are frequently new to me.
i practice yoga because i just feel it is right for me. yoga also helps me to know what is right for me in other aspects of my life.
