on november 4, my husband and i were blessed with the birth of our baby girl, isabella sio carranza, weighing in at 8 lbs. 11.9 oz. she is so beautiful to us and it was an experience that is hard to describe to anyone who has not given birth. i have always heard this and i was skeptical before being pregnant on how and why this was such a different experience. i have completed three marathons, and that is an experience that is hard to describe or imagine to anyone who has never done it. i don't want to say that running a marathon and childbirth are similar, but both are life experiences that give you a whole new view of yourself.
i am now a mother, but that title seems a bit strange to wear and wrapped up in that title are lots of expectations. then i have to remember to take it one day at a time, because if i try to look too far ahead it is very scary and overwhelming. i felt overwhelmed at this time last year when we were getting ready to move into our home at 7475 wisconsin avenue. our two-year anniversary was november 9 and our first year in our own home is december 5. there are lots of similarities between owning a business and being a mother, my heart and soul are a part of tranquil space bethesda as they are a part of my isabella. both have brought much joy to me and I look forward to continuing to share that joy with you.
i hope you will join myself and kimberly at our holiday party on saturday, december 16, to celebrate our first year in our home, kimberly's book and cd, and the birth of my beautiful isabella.
i thank you for your support of the studio, and hope you find much joy this holiday season!
blessings,
siobhan troy

i became a studio assistant in april, after taking yoga at tranquil space for 9 months. i knew i wanted to spend more time on the mat, after discovering that i was happiest while doing yoga. i love being a part of the tranquil space team and find tremendous joy and inspiration from interacting with the community of teachers and yogis in such a supportive environment. through the practice of yoga i have learned how to connect with my true self, be patient with my body (especially my tight hamstrings!), listen to and trust my inner voice, and to believe in the ability to find and live out your life's passion. although i'm still discovering what that passion is for me, i have faith that yoga, and the teachers at tranquil space, will lead me to it. i am grateful for the opportunity to be involved with the tranquil space studio and i am confident that yoga will remain a consistent and influential force throughout my life.

when i began coming to tranquil space bethesda, i came with the expectation of gaining some balance and confidence in my life. i was initially introduced to yoga practice at summer camp in middle school. i enjoyed the sense of calm i left with each class, but i never seriously pursued yoga after that summer (other than a video purchased and played a handful of times).
six months ago, newly engaged and struggling with the stress of a wedding and a new job, i decided to give yoga a try again. i left my first class with siobhan feeling refreshed and at peace. i still leave with that feeling after every class. and each class i learn something new about myself: how far i can push myself in a certain pose, when to back off of others, and how a tough day at the office or an argument or a good night's sleep can affect my practice.
i did not come to yoga to gain muscle tone and physical strength (i never saw myself as athletic), and perhaps because of this, i am consistently shocked when i "get" certain poses, even after the first time. i am stronger and more aware of myself than i have ever been. i am reaching goals i came here for and others i did not know i had. i find myself taking life a little slower and discovering a new respect for who i am and beginning the life long process of accepting what i am not.
