siobhan troy-carranza is the creative director
of tranquil space bethesda. she strives to make
her classes and the studio a refuge for students
so when they step inside they feel at home, welcomed
and relaxed. our lives are so busy that siobhan
wants her students to use their time on the yoga
mat to reconnect with their breath, their bodies
and their atman (Self).
the importance of staying in the present moment
has been the lesson her daughter, isabella, must
have been sent here to teach her. siobhan became
a first time mom in november of 2006 and loves
to share photos of her daughter on her blog.
siobhan moved to the washington, dc area in
1996, from texas where she grew up and attended
the university of texas. while a student she kept
herself busy with a full class load, waiting tables
full time and being president of the college of
communication council for two years. she has always
kept herself busy juggling multiple responsibilities
but yoga helped her realize that mulit tasking
is not a healthy path to happiness or enlightenment.
time moves quickly enough without us feeling the
need to fill each moment with productivity. as
a mother she has come to realize that saying “no”
is okay and is sometimes the best thing for yourself
as well as those around you.
yoga has brought her much joy, challenges, and
change into her life and that journey began in
2001 when she discovered tranquil space and kimberly
wilson in a church on 16th street in dupont
circle. she loved the practice of yoga and after
several months she was curious about how a person
would go about teaching it. she had roles as a
teacher in the past and always enjoyed guiding
students to find answers not only about themselves
but in their belief in themselves.
as fate would have it kimberly offered her first
level 1 intensive and after completing her training,
she began to teach at tranquil
space in 2002. before making a career change
to teach yoga, siobhan spent ten years raising
funds for a few different non-profit organizations.
while she enjoyed her work most of the time, yoga
helped her to realize that she was not being true
to her atman (Self). so she took a leap of faith
in 2003 to teach yoga full time.
then in october of 2004, siobhan and kimberly
opened tranquil space bethesda. classes started
in a church on clarendon road and now she is thrilled
that students do come to the studio to find some
peace from their hectic lives whether that is
on the yoga mat, shopping in the boutique or to
receive a massage or bodywork.
siobhan lives in nw dc near silver spring with
her husband, daughter, dog and two cats. she is
especially grateful to her husband for all his
support, love and encouragement over the years.
