our treatments:
acupuncture:
acupuncture has become a popular form of complementary health care, due to its relatively low cost and noninvasive nature. the benefits of acupuncture have been well documented in westerns medical literature, and the world health organization (who has endorsed acupuncture treatment as being effective at treating over 40 conditions including addictions, allergies, depression, digestive disorders, depression, fertility issues, gynecological disorders, headaches, insomnia, and respiratory issues).
because each person is unique, shannon creates individualized treatments for all her patients that incorporate treatment with sterile single-use disposable needles, moxibustion (the application of chinese herb mugwart) bodywork and lifestyle adjustments.
your first appointment will last approximately two hours and consist of a thorough health history and physical exam, along with the first needle treatment. subsequent visits will last about an hour and fifteen minutes. to facilitate my diagnosis, please do not wear fragrances or makeup for the visits, as these interfere with an accurate assessment of your particular state of balance.
ayurveda and thai yoga bodywork:
these 90-minute sessions include a 30-minute
ayurvedic consultation and a 60-minute thai
yoga massage. ayurveda is an ancient holistic
system of medicine and a sister science
to yoga that seeks to improve one's emotional,
energetic and physical well-being. an ayurvedic
consultation determines your predominant
'dosha' (constitutional body type) and includes
some lifestyle recommendations (diet, exercise
etc.). the thai yoga massage will be customized
to balance your particular 'dosha'. thai
yoga bodywork combines massage, assisted
yoga poses, acupressure, energy work, and
meditation to unblock energy, relieve tension,
and increase your body's natural ability
to heal itself. please wear comfortable
clothes that move and stretch with you.
deep tissue massage:
using slow strokes and deep finger pressure
on contracted areas either following or
going across the grain of the muscles, tendon,
and/or fascia. a more intense deep reaching
massage designed to get the boulders out
of your shoulders and to relieve those stubborn
knots of chronic tension.
swedish massage:
lengthening, kneading, frictioning and
passive movement of the joints designed
to loosen you up. a soothing and relaxing
massage that will improve muscle tone, circulation,
and joint flexibility.
ayurvedic evaluation:
ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, is an ancient indian healing art. one of the key concepts of this healing system is the identification of a person’s constitutional body type (dosha) which will determine recommendations for diet and lifestyle, as well as treatment. anne offers one-hour consultations to determine your individual body type, assess possible imbalances and discuss recommendations for diet and lifestyle adjustments.
thai yoga bodywork:
combines massage, assisted yoga poses,
acupressure, energy work, and meditation
to unblock energy, relieve tension, and
increase our body's natural ability to heal
itself. please wear comfortable clothes
that move and stretch with you.
prenatal massage:
massage therapy offers a nurturing, effective complement to your pregnancy health regime. therapeutic massage is safe and helpful for women with uncomplicated pregnancies, and can also be beneficial to women with “high-risk” pregnancies (with written consent from your health care provider).
during your child-bearing year, your body will undergo extraordinary changes which can create physical and emotional stress. because you are your baby’s entire environment during your pregnancy, your baby experiences what you do, from joy to anxiety. nurturing and skilled massage therapy can significantly reduce the discomforts of pregnancy, and can provide a greater sense of well-being for both you and your baby.
massage therapy sessions for pregnant and postpartum women are designed to provide relief from physical and emotional stressors in a nurturing, calm and pleasurable manner. taking your stage of pregnancy into account, you will be well supported in side-lying or reclining positions. using modest draping, we will address your particular areas of concern, whether it be an aching low back, swollen ankles, or anxiety. each session is solely dedicated to meeting the needs of you and your baby.
prenatal thai yoga bodywork:
thai yoga bodywork is a healing art that
is both dynamic and relaxing. it combines
stretching, yoga postures, and energetic
bodywork to balance and rejuvenate the body.
prenatal thai yoga bodywork is specifically
designed to help a woman adapt to pregnancy,
to alleviate some of the common discomforts
of pregnancy, to increase flexibility and
body awareness, and to relax.
raindrop therapy:
this technique based on a lakota indian
tradition of moving the electrical energy
in the body to bring balance, health and
harmony. siobhan uses pure therapeutic oils
and drops them like rain along the spine
and directly onto the skin. the oils are
then gently stroked up the spine to use
the body's own energy to clear the chakras
and purge toxins, bacteria and viruses.
reiki treatment:
relax and renew as you stimulate your
body's own natural healing system with the
ancient Japanese technique of reiki. reiki
is a calming, simple, non-invasive technique
which has been known to strengthen the immune
system, calm the nervous system and reduce
stress. September, a second-degree reiki
practitioner in the usui system of natural
healing, simply lays her hands over different
areas of the body and channels energy to
the client. sessions are approximately one
hour. dress in loose comfortable clothing.
structural acupressure:
this form of bodywork incorporates westerns and eastern understandings of the body’s structural and energetic systems. in these sessions clients lay face up, fully clothed while shannon gently stretches and presses strategic acupressure points on the body. no needles are used. it is a simple yet powerful way to treat neck, back, hip and other structural problems. it can also help replace frenetic or chaotic energetic states with calmer balanced ones. after a session clients often find relief from physical and mental discomfort, and feel relaxed and aligned within their bodies.
